Jef’s practice focuses on all aspects of family law. Jef found Kith + Kin having previously spent time at a prestigious national law firm where he gained experience in resolving complex disputes through both litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to law, Jef had a successful career in the field of social work and children’s mental health. A dynamic individual, he has filled numerous roles in that field from counsellor to program manager. Jef has also provided consulting services and crisis management training to children’s mental health agencies and is certified through Cornell University as a trainer in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.

Jef draws on his in-depth understanding of family dynamics and child development to help his clients negotiate lasting settlements which provide for their children’s best interests. Jef is also a Collaborative Family Lawyer and a member of Collaborative Practice Toronto, The Ontario Collaborative Law Federation, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. He strongly believes that a Collaborative Process offers his client’s the best “path to peace” while still allowing them to protect their own interests. While Jef believes that collaborative negotiation provides the most cost-effective and, often, least disruptive route to reaching settlement, he recognizes that family lawyers must be able to consider all tools available to them in reaching their clients’ goals.

Jef also offers mediation services to clients and applies a model of Collaborative Mediation to his work that can bring in additional professional support where needed and cost effective. For more amicable separating spouse’s who are unsure of their process options or the best approach to reaching a Separation Agreement Jef will often suggests starting with a Joint Early Neutral Process Consultation to assist with those decisions.

Outside of the office, Jef is an avid skier who also has a passionate interest in all things culinary.
